Hartford has founded in 1810 with its complete name as "The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc.", in marketing materials, is a large investment and insurance company in the United States. The Hartford group has logo with an emblem featuring a stag. It has products including life, auto, homeowners, and business insurance and employee benefits, and is the largest seller of individual annuities in the United States. It supplies insurance products to members of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). Hartford company sells products through about 11,000 independent insurance agencies, and the company has employes about 30,000 persons. It is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol HIG.

Today the company The Hartford Foundation is the country's largest private foundation focused solely on aging and health. Since 1983, the company has able to devoted approximately $290.7 million to projects across the nation to prepare health professionals for both the variety of older patients they will treat and the various systems of care in which they will work, and to create new models of integrated health services, in geriatric medicine, nursing and social work.

The Hartford company granted money were used to fund for the first kidney transplants, to create the equipment that keeps patients alive on longterm kidney dialysis, to discover and disseminate electrical therapies for restoring abnormal heart rhythms, to set up the first specialized cardiac care units, to turn cataract surgery into a minimally invasive procedure, to use lasers to treat diabetic retinopathy and to investigate cryogenic therapies, and for many others.
